Defender Joe Widdowson joined the O’s in the summer of 2017 after turning down a new contract at Dagenham & Redbridge.
Widdowson started his career with West Ham United, the left back made his senior debut in 2008 while on loan at Rotherham United before signing for Grimsby Town during the summer of 2009 after a successful loan spell.
Following a year with the Mariners, Widdowson made the switch to Rochdale where he registered 73 appearances between 2010-2012, before enjoying two years at Northampton Town in which he made 75 appearances for the Cobblers.
Following a short spell at Bury which included a loan at Morecambe, the full-back signed for Dagenham & Redbridge on loan in November 2014 before completing a permanent switch.
During his time at the Daggers, Widdowson went on to make a total of 106 appearances, with the defender making 51 of those for John Still’s side in 2016/17 as they reached the Vanarama National League Play-Off Semi-Final.
Widdowson quickly became a regular starter for the O’s, earning himself the nickname ‘Mr. Consistent’ for his reliable performances. During the promotion-winning season of 2018/19, he made 46 appearances in all competitions.
